Mayor de Blasio signed new legislation requiring hotels with over 100 rooms that have laid off over 75% of their employees, or closed as a result of Covid-19, to pay a weekly severance of $500 for up to 30 weeks to their laid off employees if they do not reopen by November 1st, 2021.

DeBlasio’s various campaigns have had large contribution from the hotel worker’s union. Big surprise!!

The Hotel Association of New York City has filed a suit to strike down the bill. President and CEO of the Assocation, Vijay Dandapani, believes this legislation will cause hotels who are already drowning in debt to further struggle, and leave New York.
