Violating safety regulations has led to building inspectors shutting down over 300 city construction sites. Seven construction worker deaths have occurred this year.
Construction worker injuries have been on the rise as well, with 1,097 injuries occurring on sites over the past 2 years.
As New York has been experiencing a building boom since 2014 – many construction projects have sprung up faster than city officials can examine safety regulations at sites. While construction sites paint the picture for growth in New York, the city is catching up on enforcing proper safety regulations.
New construction safety bills will require safety professionals on buildings with 7 stories or more. These professionals will be a Department of Buildings licensed construction superintendent, to oversee each site.
Will this impact the cost or timelines of new construction? Very likely.
