This is a perfect snapshot of the larger picture for retail and the challenges presented by Covid-19. Dunkin Donuts isn’t the only retail chain to lose stores this year. Starbucks, Metro by T-Mobile, and Duane Reade have less stores.
The bright side is, landlords may start lowering rents enough to allow independent retailers back. This could change the mix of Manhattan retail from national chains to more mom-and-pop shops.
